Since 2022 I've been the Social Media and Communications Coordinator for the UBC department of Earth, Oceans & Atmospheric Sciences. I've picked up a lot of skills I'm very proud of from this job: photography, videography, video editing, and graphic design to name but a few!
4 years of social media posts is a bit much for my website, but you can check out @ubceoas on instagram, or look below for highlights!
My favourite part of my job is getting to chat to the broad range of scientists in my department and help them to distil and translate their work for a broad range of audiences.
Here are some examples of videos I've made or worked on for the EOAS socials!
To highlight the diverse range of science and scientists we have in our department, I put together this simple but effective campaign on our instagram. I asked grad students and postdocs to come and have a photo taken & to distil their research into one simple and jargon-free sentence.
Here are the results—click on each person to see what they are working on!
In July & August 2024 I was lucky enough to join a group of geomorphologists, geologists & glaciologists on a 3 week fieldwork expidition to the largest uninhabited island on earth: Devon Island, Nunavut in the Canadian High arctic.
I made this series of videos on our experience with the footage I took during the trip as well as drone footage. My goal with this series is to show a little bit about what life is like living in a tent around polar bears for 2 weeks with 24/7 daylight—as not many people will have the fortune to experience this!
As well as videos I also do the department headshots for the website, and work on various other tasks such as making posters for undergraduate courses, special events, even designing stickers!
